A majority of hunters got their experience the hard way, via trial and error, but with the help of the internet and informational sites, I think it would be easier to get Online Deer Hunting Tips and advice, so let me tell you some of what I have learned through 10 years of practice. I’ll tell you first about their nature and behaviors.

It is known that Deer are crepuscular creature, as they are mostly active at dawn and dusk and tending to sleep during the middle of the day and night, however, that does not mean that you cannot see them feeding during the middle of the day.

Deer also have an excellent sense of smell, as they can differentiate scents very well. If deer smells anything out of the ordinary they will become extremely alerted and start searching for a way out of the area. So it’s very important to use special products to hide your scent.

Deer calls are one of the most important things you should learn about. It could be an aid to improve your success in hunting White Tail Deer, or it could cause failure. You should also be very careful in blind calling, when no deer are visible. You can use a grunt tube, which is a basic tool in deer calling, for trying to reproduce a communication sound all deer make. Also a doe bleat is a communication call for the whitetail deer.

There is a piece you should pick carefully to match your need, which is a tree stand. It provides you with a higher perspective of surroundings. It keeps you higher than a whitetails direct line of sight and gives another advantage while you are attempting to keep your scent from being discovered by their all powerful noses.

There are many kinds of stands such as Ladder Stands, Climbing Stands, Hang-On Stands, and other types. You should also remain still, and try not to move unless absolutely necessary, but take care and do not fall asleep. This can be tricky when you remain so still for long time, but falling asleep not only will cause you to lose your deer, but it can also be quite dangerous if you are up in a tree stand.

When I moved to Wisconsin from North Carolina in June of 2000. I was excited about the opportunity to go deer hunting. My father in-law and brother in-law both had long traditions of going out the weekend before thanksgiving with the intent of harvesting a huge Wisconsin buck.

I did not own a rifle so I borrowed my father in-law’s 308 and took to the woods. I shot a small 5-point buck. I was hooked. In those days when you bought a deer license you got a buck tag. If you wanted a chance to take a doe you needed to apply for a choice permit. A few years went by and I wanted more chances to bag that big Wisconsin buck. So I started bow hunting.

I met a few local guys playing softball in a local beer league that owned a few acres of private land that was accessible for bow hunting. I harvested a small buck every year. I never really had a chance to bag that huge Buck.

With seasons coming and going the Wisconsin DNR made doe permits more readily available. They made some deer management units T-Zone units. This meant there were special doe only hunts twice a year. At first I thought this was just a chance to spend more time in the woods. But a few years later when T-Zone units turned into Herd Control Units more and more does were taken.

The measures the DNR took to control the herd depleted one of Wisconsin’s most desired resources. I was finally able to harvest a mature 10-point buck with my bow in 2007. But the last two years my deer sightings were way down.

Deer hunting brings in a lot of money into Wisconsin. Not only by selling licenses. Buying guns, ammo, gear, lodging and food brings in millions to the local economy that struggles up north. I hope the DNR makes a change. If they don’t everyone will suffer.

You want to read and learn about all things related to plants and gardens? If that is the case, then you are in the right place to get information about gardening tips. Individuals who love gardening should give a the following gardening tips a try. If you’re planting gladiolas this year, be sure to try the following:

• Plant gladiolus corms when the soil is warm enough to plant. The best season to plant them in your garden is spring season.

• Make sure to plant only plump, clean corms. Check for the best sizes too as smaller corms may produce a smaller flower or just leaves and no flower at all. Toss any that don’t look right or feel soft or crumbly.

• Plant the corms on an area that receives maximum sunlight. Full sun is best, however, if you cannot get away from a partial shade, your gladiolas will still grow.

• While planting the corms make sure it is three to five inches deep and four to six inches apart.

• Cover the place with mulch lightly around glads, or between rows, to prevent growing of weeds.

• The stems of the glads are very weak. They are prone to break in the wind. When blooming begins, hill the soil about six inches up around the stem to help support the heavy flower growth. You can even fasten it to a stake to keep them perky and tall.

• Water once and let the spring rains do the rest. If dry conditions prevail water occasionally along with the rest of the garden.

• You will start seeing fresh blooms within three months or a bit more after planting the corms. Make sure the glad aren’t shaded by other plants or weeds. Mulch all varieties to maintain moisture and to conserve water.

• Gladiolas are prey to pest insects and are susceptible to a number of diseases as well. To get rid of these problems, watch for aphids and trips which suck sap from leaves, stems and flowers. If found, spray with insecticidal soap or other natural pest control. Glad’s are host to several virus diseases.

• If the plants are infected just pull them of the soil and destroy them as there is no cure once plants are infected.

Japanese gardens are becoming popular and more gardens in the States are trying to have one part of them turned into a Japanese garden. In this Japanese gardening article, you are going to learn 3 types of Japanese garden styles which is very important for the planning of such gardens.

You should know about the meaning of each types of garden because you would not want to spoil the theme of your whole garden. Let me get down and dirty to explain three of them to you.

When people talk about Japanese garden styles, people will start imagining about small gardens without much flowers. Yes, this is the most popular style but the truth is, true Japanese gardens take up a lot of space. The small one that we always hear of will be the courtyard garden.

Courtyard gardens have only a few features but to be simple is the key here. The purpose of having little features is to promote serenity and peace when you walk into the area. It does not aim to cause confusion and thus, a small water feature. a miniature tree and a few plants will be enough for a courtyard garden.

Japanese gardening also includes a style of garden called tea garden. Again, flowers should be nowhere to be seen in this garden style. It usually consists of an outer and an inner garden. The inner garden will be the place where you find a small hut designated for tea ceremonies. You do need to keep in mind that the term “tea garden” does not mean that you need to have tea plants planted in the garden. It is only named that way because the garden is used for tea ceremonies.

Another style of Japanese garden that is popular in Japan itself is the pond and island garden. Yes, it does require a lot of place to create such a breathtaking masterpiece. You may not have the space for it but you can always incorporate the style into your garden. If you can accommodate a pond in your garden, try planting some water lilies and rear some Japanese Koi fish the pond.

For the plants, you can have some perennials and some decorating features just to turn your visitors’ attention to the pond. It is always nice to plant a big tree beside a pond because I am sure living creatures in there require a shade. The flows of water and the chirping of birds from the pond and island garden will definitely mix into your own relaxation tune.

While prerut deer hunting centers around food sources, hunting during the rut is a completely different game. Rutting season or mating season for deer usually occurs during late fall or winter months. The actual time of rut varies from region to region. During this time, bucks are looking for does that are ready to mate rather than for food. Hunting whitetail deer during the rut usually centers around scrape lines along trails or near food sources.

A scrape is a mark in the ground where a buck has pawed the leaves and surface dirt away. This basically lets does in the area know there is an eligible bachelor nearby. Typically a doe that is ready to mate urinates in the scrape. The buck then checks the scrapes periodically and when a doe in heat is detected, the chase is on. Finding a scrape line and placing a stand strategically nearby is one of the best ways to bag a trophy buck. The idea is to try to catch the buck checking the scrapes.

Bucks will also create rubs on trees. A rub is an area on a tree trunk where the bark has been rubbed off by a bucks antlers. Also, nearby twigs or branches may be broken. Bucks create rubs to mark a territory and let does and other bucks know of their presence. Usually a scrape will be near a rub and often any over hanging limbs over a scrape will be broken. Hunting in areas where there are rubs may increase the chances of seeing a trophy buck chasing a doe. Keep in mind that bucks tend to be constantly on the move during the rut so hunting near sign such as fresh scrapes or rubs is imperative to keep up with them. Bucks will freshen a scrape periodically by pawing the dirt again. A scrape that obviously has been left alone for a while probably will not be worth hunting because the buck may be in another area at that time.

In conclusion, hunting during the rut is more unpredictable than hunting in the prerut season. Deer never stay in the same areas much and a scrape used a couple of weeks ago may not be active now. Check scrapes periodically to determine if a buck is still in the area and look for fresh rubs. Always be wary even if scouting because during the rut, that monster buck may show up at any time.

Gardening can be an expensive hobby, but it didn’t start out that way. Back in our Grandparents time, people enjoyed beautiful gardens even without a Home Depot on the corner. Here are some frugal gardening tips for those of us who want to save some “green”.

*Soil is the key to a wonderful garden, so boost your soil whenever possible. Low cost ways? Create a compost pile, and add all your organic kitchen waste to it. Using a blender, blend up leftover organic scraps from the kitchen at the end of the day, and add it directly to the soil around heavy feeders, such as roses. Look for free material to add to your compost bin. Neighbors would love to donate bags of leaves in the fall instead of hauling them to the curb, and my neighbor knows he can dump the rabbit manure from his hobby right in my compost pile.

*Grow plants from seed. You don’t need a greenhouse to do this. If you are patient, you can plant perennial flower seeds in flats outdoors once the weather warms up, and nurse them into full size plants for fall planting. Not seeding them in late winter means no flowers till next year, but you will also have a much higher success rate with your seeds.

*Grow plants that seed themselves. Some of my favorite plants are only annuals, meaning they die when frost hits, but you never have to replant! This is because they drop many viable seeds during the growing season, called self-seeding or self-sowing. The dropped seeds germinate in spring for a full garden of flowers. Great plants you only have to seed once? Cosmos, sunflowers, alyssum, poppies, lambs ear, black eyed susans and yarrow.

*Use unusual containers for your container gardens, instead of spending big bucks on planters from the home improvement store. Anything that can hold soil can become a planter. An old cracked chimera, a rusted wheelbarrow, or a pretty basket lined with plastic.

*Line your planters with newspaper before you add soil. It helps retain water and keep the soil temperature more constant, keeping the plants healthier and saving water. (And watering time!)

*When you rototill or dig up soil for a new garden bed or project, save all the rocks you find along the way in a pile. Later they can be used as edging. The smaller ones can be used is mosaic projects as well.

*Order roses and other shrubs online in late winter to get a great bare root discount. If you watch the catalog sites such as Jackson and Perkins or Bluestone Perennials, you will often find web specials or huge discounts for multiple purchases. I once bought 6 gorgeous English roses for less than $30. That’s $5 a piece for top of the line roses you can’t even get at the home improvement store!
*Use old pantyhose as tiebacks for your climbing plants. Cut them into strips and use to tie them to their supports. The hose is soft as to not damage the plant, and quickly disappears into the foliage.

*Visit building areas and ask if they have a scrap pile you can have lumber from. Scrap wood can yield many projects in the garden, from birdhouses to garden fencing. Always remember to ask permission first.

*In late summer purchase gallon size pots of flowers at a huge discount, but pick the ones you can divide. Many plants can be divided into several smaller plants, planted in the fall and will give you three or four full size plants (or more) for the one you paid for. And you got a discount at that for buying at the right time! Easy plants to divide? Lambs ear, daylilies, groundcovers, ornamental grasses, dianthus, bluebells, coreopsis, coneflower and bee balm.

Easy ways to save big money while gardening!
